Day 5: Thinking Wonderful Thoughts – 10 Wonderful Thoughts to Start Your Day!

This is the final day in a blog series about thinking wonderfully. For the previous post click here.

Over the past few days, I have been honest about three negative trains of thought, which I am frequently drawn to.

Today, I wanted to end this series by writing something that will – hopefully – set you up for a day of wonderful thoughts!

Here are 10 wonderful thoughts to start your day with. Speak them out loud or use them for inspiration to write your own! (P.S If you do have any extra-wonderful thoughts, please add them in the comments below!)

1. My God is a rug maker!

In Psalm 139, the author says:

For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

Psalm 139: 13, NIV.

Recently, I was sat on my bed, praying. As I was praying, I started to think about Oriental rugs! I did a little bit of research on the internet; I wanted to know how these rugs were made. After five minutes of reading about intricate weaving and weft-wrapping, I realised that rug making is not for the faint of heart. It is an intricate and time consuming process!

I felt God remind me that He is creator. He knitted you and I in such a remarkable, detailed way. We can’t even begin to imagine how wonderfully creative He is. He creatively made us and He is still in the creative industry, leading you and I to make things that this world has never seen before.

How exciting is that!

2. My God is in the room with me!

Have you seen the hit Broadway show titled Hamilton?

In Hamilton there is a song called “The Room Where it Happened.” It is sung by a character who is frustrated, because he wasn’t in the room where a particular, important political decision was agreed. The main lyric, “no one else was in the room where it happened,” is not only very catchy, but I think it highlights a problem, which people like you and I frequently have… That is, we want to be in the room where it happens. We don’t want to miss out!

What we forget is that Jesus is always in the room with us. He is always inviting you into a moment with Him that will never happen again, in history. He’s inviting you into a relationship that only you and Him can have.

It’s yours.

Think about it; you have the opportunity to talk to with the very God that put the stars in the sky, on a daily basis.

Simply put, you don’t have to fear missing out. You are in the room where it happens, right now!

3. My God is a cleaner!

The book of Isaiah reads:

“Come now, let us settle the matter,”
    says the Lord.
“Though your sins are like scarlet,
    they shall be as white as snow;
though they are red as crimson,
    they shall be like wool.”

Isaiah 1: 18, NIV.

Jesus washes you clean from all bitterness, all sin and all shame. He washes you with His blood. For every time you have said ‘yes’ to un-wonderful thoughts; He cleans you in His righteousness.

4. My God is a gift-giver.

Even as you wake up, you have been gifted with life – breath in your lungs, a new day ahead. Maybe you have a house or a room to live in? Maybe you have a phone or a computer, to read this blog? You might have some food in a fridge or running water. Look around – you are absolutely gifted today.

5. My God is in my relationships.

In the book of Romans, the author writes:

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Romans 8:28, KJV.

I know that some of you reading this have tricky relationship issues to navigate. I know that just thinking about those relationship issues makes you want to curl right back into bed on a morning. You don’t want to walk through difficulty. I understand.

But believe it when God says He can make all things work for your good. Believe that He will help you where you have messed up. He is redeemer. He can give you words and lead you through tough things, one day at a time. Let Him be your strength today.

6. My God is healer.

The bible tells us that Jesus was frequently moved with compassion towards people that were sick and needed healing.

In the book of Matthew it says:

When Jesus […] saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick.

Matthew 14:14, NIV, my abbreviation.

He didn’t just heal on a physical level. He healed emotionally, mentally and spiritually, too.

He still does.

Whatever your needs, He has compassion and is willing to heal you.

7. My God is a friend.

When I first became a Christian, I practised keeping a journal. In it, I wrote the truth. I wrote my honest feelings, my honest expectations. I wrote about my experience, without lying or exaggerating.

It was so freeing.

By doing this, I realised that God is a friend. One that I can share everything with. Jesus calls us friends in the bible:

I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.

John 15:15, NIV.

8. My God is love.

In Jeremiah it says:

The Lord appeared to me (Israel) from ages past, saying,
“I have loved you with an everlasting love;
Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you and continued My faithfulness to you.

Jeremiah 31:3, AMP.

He loves you with an everlasting love and he draws you close with kindness.

9. My God is not finished with me.

Another problem I have is patience! I want all of my dreams to come true at once. I don’t want to have to go through a process of highs and lows, in order to build character!

Because I am impatient, I often forget that God isn’t finished with me. If I have a bad day, I wind up feeling fed up, hopeless and deflated.

Remembering that God isn’t finished with me helps me hold onto hope. If you are having a bad day, things will get better. God has incredible plans for you, if you just stay obedient to Him.

10. My God is big.

Psalm 95 says:

For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods.

Psalm 95:3, ESV.

The God we serve is Lord over all. He is great and powerful and King over all. Sometimes, we magnify problems and anxieties – without remembering how mighty God is.

You and I can choose instead to magnify God. We can choose to fix our eyes on Him and bring to mind His greatness; His glory.

Conclusion
